Sarah Stewart MSc MCSP MAACP
Senior Chartered Physiotherapist
CoActive Physio is run by Sarah Stewart, an experienced and fully chartered musculoskeletal and Pelvic Health physiotherapist. Sarah qualified in 2007 from Kings College London with an MSc honours in Physiotherapy and has gone on to complete a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Practice. She has worked both within the National Health Service and the private sector.
Bridging the gap between musculoskeletal and pelvic health physiotherapy, Sarah has further trained with the Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy association (POGP) in Pelvic Health Physiotherapy, and is able to assess and treat patients with Urinary Dysfunction, Lower Bowel Dysfunction, Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Complex Pelvic Pain presentations, plus pregnancy and postnatal related pelvic health and musculoskeletal concerns. Sarah offers pelvic floor assessments and training as part of her treatments. Sarah runs the Pelvi Power sessions at CoActive Physio - magnetic stimulation and biofeedback training for improving pelvic floor function - as well as the Mummy MOT postnatal checks. Sarah is passionate about providing excellent postnatal assessments and care to help mums get back to full health and fitness.
Sarah started her physiotherapy career at the Royal Derby Hospital soon after qualifying and worked in areas of orthopaedics, respiratory medicine, neurological rehabilitation, and musculoskeletal outpatients. Having worked her way up to a senior position, she additionally taught medical students from Nottingham university and supervised student and junior physiotherapists. Sarah has worked in private practice in Chester since 2011.
Sarah is a certified Pilates instructor with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI), incorporating the Pilates method into her treatments as well as teaching both one to one sessions and classes. Acupuncture is a further qualification she has obtained and she finds it complements traditional physiotherapy methods well. Sarah also has a BSc degree in Psychology and finds this is especially applicable when treating patients with chronic pain and sports injuries – she treats her patients holistically and strongly believes in the link between mind and body.
Sarah treats a wide range of conditions (see the treatment page for more detail) and adheres to CoActive Physio’s moto: "Acting together to achieve your health and fitness goals" – recovery is a joint effort between therapist and patient and will only be successful if both parties are on board.
"After suffering for nearly 4 years with hip and back problems, 6 weeks of treatment by Sarah has made a huge difference to my mobility and I'm now almost pain-free. I have been so impressed with her knowledge and her ability to explain both causes and treatment clearly so that I felt very confident that at last I would make progress if I persevered with the prescribed exercises. I really like her method of emailing my exercise programme which includes video reminders, plus a tracking sheet which motivates me to keep to the regime. I can highly recommend Sarah for her professionalism and expertise together with her friendly and sympathetic approach."

"I totally recommend Sarah as a physio. I had a serious leg injury and was very impressed with the professional and kind, caring help that I received. Sarah also went the extra mile in ringing and trying to sort out my pain relief and checking up my progress between appointments. Her treatment was thorough and successful and in a very short while I was back on my feet."

“I went to Sarah after being diagnosed with a shoulder injury that was causing me a great amount of discomfort. Despite being initially apprehensive about my first ever Physiotherapy session - I found Sarah to be professional, knowledgeable and most of all friendly. After my initial consultation and treatment session I felt much better, in a physical sense and also had the reassurance that my injury would get better and we were on the path to recovery. I am several treatment sessions in and working through the achievable 'at home’ exercises along with posture work. I have marked improvement and some days feel back to normal. I would not hesitate to visit Sarah again myself or recommend her to others. Thank you.”

"I originally came to see Sarah with chronic lower back pain and disc problems which were very distressing. Sarah was very reassuring, and with her combined program of physio and acupuncture I was soon feeling stronger, more confident, and pain free. I then booked in for 1-2-1 Pilates and a few weeks later was able to join her group classes, which I really enjoy and attend regularly. With Sarah’s support and expertise we can now target any problems as they arise and tailor my treatment and exercises accordingly. I feel in very safe hands, and can’t recommend her enough."

"Sarah's thorough and well-balanced Pilates classes have helped me strengthen and mobilise all the problem areas across my body. Sarah is able to modify the exercises according to individual need, especially as she keeps the class size small. The atmosphere in class is relaxed and friendly, and everyone is made to feel welcome. Sarah is very knowledgeable but is also a very kind and patient instructor - I would highly recommend her classes."

"Pilates is a new venture for me , having been recommended by a friend. I tried another class but didn't really enjoy it. When I came to Sarah's class the experience was completely different and so much more fun and enjoyable. I absolutely love the classes and feel my body is becoming strengthened and toned. Sarah wonderfully explains what to do and you feel in very safe hands. I compare it to a computer that's been reset every week.I come out of the classes energised and always so glad that I have been."
