Specialist Bladder and Bowel Nurse

Helen is a highly experienced Bladder and Bowel specialist nurse. Currently working as a full time clinical lead in a local NHS trust, Helen has joined our Chester Pelvic Health team to further develop this specialist service.

Helen is extremely passionate about her job as a Bladder and Bowel specialist and strives every day to meet the increasing demands that this role has. Helen believes that Bladder and Bowel care is an integral part of people's quality of life; not only does it affect them in a physiological way , but can also impact their mental wellbeing. Helen is working with our Chester Pelvic Health team at CoActive Physio to continue to ensure all our patients receive high quality standards of care through a holistic and proactive approach.

Helen has been intrinsically involved in her NHS role in developing key Bowel pathways and educating other health professionals, including GPs, on promotion of these essential services. She has been a ward manager of a an elective and surgical bowel ward and also worked in the primary care community setting. She is experienced in assessing a treating a wide range of bladder and bowel patients, including neurological based presentations.

We are delighted to be able to bring to our Pelvic Health clinic additional specialist assessment and treatment options, alongside the pelvic health physiotherapy service we already offer, through Helen. Helen will be assessing and treating Clients with Bowel symptoms such as urgency, frequency, chronic constipation, fecal incontinence, neurological conditions, post operative LARS following rectal surgery. She will also be assessing and treating clients with bladder symptoms such as urgency, frequency, incontinence, incomplete bladder emptying and pre/post operative prostatectomy surgery.

Vaginal/rectal examination
Prolapse examination
Development of management and treatment plans, promoting patient ownership
Bladder scanning
Intermittent self catheterisation
Rectal irrigation
Complex bowel management for spinal injury, neurogenic bowels
Advanced rehabilitation techniques
Medication initiation and review
Bladder drill
Health promotion - lifestyle advice- diet and exercise

Future developments will include a pessary clinic and nurse prescribing service
